THRISSUR: Students Federation of India (SFI) national president P K Biju, MP, said that a national campaign would be organised against the Union Government’s 'antipeople' education policy.

He told reporters here on Saturday that the Right to Education Bill, which was expected to be the most progressive piece of legislation in the country, had been converted into a piece of lameduck legislation.

The provisions of the Bill were not sufficient for rendering universal education as 170 million children up to 6 years of age were not brought under the purview of the Right to Education Act. Only 3.25 percent of the GDP has been allocated for education.

At least 10 percent should be allocated in this regard, Biju said. He warned that the Bill would lead to large-scale commercialisation of education.
