KOTTAYAM: The Kochi-based Qualified Private Medical Practioners and Hospitals Association (QPMA) is going to extend its activities on a national-level soon. As a first stage of its expansion, QPMA is all set to launch its branches in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and New Delhi.

QPMA, formed by private doctors in 1973, aims at the welfare of doctors and hospitals in the private sector, said association president Dr Joseph Stephen at a news conference here on Friday.

While it is focused to address the problems faced by private doctors in their field of activity, it also contributes its collective might to help member doctors in their research and higher studies, he said.

As an organisation of doctors, the QPMA had done valuable service by giving medical aid during emergencies like tsunami. Besides, it is operating ambulance service from all private hospitals. To help doctors and medical students in their research, it has opened a reference library at its headquarters.

Responding to statements coming out against the functioning of QPMA, Dr Joseph Stephen said that such statements are baseless. QPMA will continue its work in the national- level for the welfare of private doctors and hospitals, unmindful of such criticism.
