GURUVAYUR: Kuchela Dinam will be observed at Sree Krishna temple here on Wednesday.
The Kuchela Dinam is observed on the first Wednesday of Malayalam month Dhanu annually.
It is believed that it was on this day, Kuchela, a poor Brahmin and the childhood friend of Lord Krishna visited Krishna at Dwaraka with ‘avil’(beaten paddy) offering and in return he attained eternal bliss and prosperity. As a commemorative of this belief, ‘avil nivedyam’ is an important offering at the temple on the day. The Devaswom will prepare ‘avil nivedyam’ worth Rs 2 lakh for offering on Wednesday.
Apart from the ‘avil nivedyam’ prepared by Devaswom thousands will throng the temple with raw beaten paddy as an offering.
The devotees can make the receipts for Avil Nivedyam offering from special counters inside the temple from Tuesday evening said Temple deputy administrator P V Somasundaram
