KOCHI: Three new divisions will be added to the Kochi Corporation in the upcoming local body elections. Chambakkara, Pottakkuzhi and Padivattom are the three new divisions.
With the addition of these wards, the total number of divisions under Kochi Corporation will go up to 74 from 71.
In the delimitation exercise, the boundaries of several divisions are also redesigned.
The Chambakkara division is formed by dividing Vyttila division into two, while Pottakkuzhi division is formed by carving out places from Kaloor north and Elamakkara south divisions. The Padivattom division is formed by dividing Vennala and Devankulangara divisions.
Meanwhile, Corporation opposition leader A B Sabu alleged that the whole delimitation procedure was done unscientifically and against the norms.
“The authorities have made artificial changes in the normal structure of the divisional boundaries, suggested by the Election Commission with the help of some officers who are the sympathisers of the ruling front,” Sabu said.
Sabu said the Opposition would file a complaint to the Election Commission in this regard.
