At the pandal put up in front of the municipal office in Shoranur, chairperson C K Jayalakshmi administered the oath of office.
The first person to be sworn in was Janakeeya Vikasana Samithi (JVS) councillor Leela who won from ward one. She was followed by T Satheesh Babu, C Biju, O P Govindankutty, K Sarala, V Vimala, M R Murali, Vijayalakshmi and K P Prasad. Except C Biju, who was from the CPM, all the remaining eight councillors were from the JVS.
Among those who were present to witness the swearing in ceremony were vice-chairman S Krishnadas, Standing committee chairman P Govindankutty and activists of the JVS and the CPM.
M R Murali and the other JVS councillors came in a procession from the Prabhatham Kala Samskarika Vedi office while C Biju came in a procession from the CPM office to the venue of the ceremony.
In the 30-member Shoranur municipal council, the CPM has 14 members, the JVS eight members, Congress seven councillors and the BJP one councillor.
Meanwhile, M R Murali said that it was up to the CPM ruling council in the municipality to resign since it has been reduced to a minority.
Or else the CPM should state that it planned to cling on to power with the support of the BJP.
He said that the JVS had not thought of bringing a no-confidence motion at present since the CPM and the BJP need to make clear their stand.
