ALUVA: A large number of devotees including dignitaries, flooded the banks of the Periyar in Aluva to witness the unique ceremonies of Agnishtoma Somayagam and receive blessings on Thursday.
The Somayagam which is being performed after a gap of 222 years aims at total prosperity of the Universe.
According to Yagaraksha Purushan Sooryanarayana Sharma, the negative energy is being felt in its maximum magnitude in this part of the State forcing the organisers to choose the banks of the Periyar to perform the Somayagam to fill the environment with positive energy.
Somayagam brings man closer to the Nature providing abundant benefits to all living beings.
Offerings are made through holy fire to appease the Universal Spirit (Ashwini Devas).
The rithwiks produced Somarasam, the nectar of Somalatha which grows at the high altitude of the Himalayas, in the early hours on Thursday. A lot of rare herbs, purified ghee, foodgrains and cereals were also offered with Somarasam, amid chanting ‘Agnaye Idam Na Maha’ (We dedicate all these to holy fire).
Earlier, Somarasam, the juice of Somalatha had been collected in Dronakalasam.
The vedic scholars performed Pratharanuvagasastram ritual. The soul of Yaga Purushan was offered to Aahavaneeyagni before sunrise on Thursday. Somarasam was offered after sunrise. The devotees and rithwiks were delighted when the Yagasala and Yagabhoomi turned wet in Amruthavarsham.
Arrangements are being made to distribute Prasadam after 8 a.m. on Friday. Remedial rituals will be offered on Friday. The Yagasala will be offered to sacred fire by setting it ablaze on Friday evening, marking the culmination of the historic sixday- long yagam.
