THRISSUR: Music maestro K J Yesudas on Friday inaugurated the Kidney Federation of India here. Speaking on the occasion, he stressed the need for propagating donation of kidney and other human organs to save the lives of those suffering from kidney ailments and other diseases.

Federation chairman Fr Davis Chiramel, who recently donated one of his kidneys to a patient along with Rs 2 lakh generated by selling his car, explained the objectives of the federation. He said that the main objective of the federation was to propagate donation of kidney by people in general and by the relatives of patients in particular.

He said that the federation would offer Rs 2 lakh each to 10 persons undergoing kidney transplantation every year towards the cost of transplantation and medicines.

Fr Chiramel said that his donation of Rs 2 lakh to the patient had encouraged some kind-hearted people to offer financial support to kidney patients.

Kerala Assembly Speaker K Radhakrishnan presided over the function.

Abdussamad Samadani delivered the keynote address.

Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri , Therambi l Ramakrishnan MLA, K V Abdul Khader MLA, P T Kunhumuhammed and others spoke.
