KOCHI: The Paul M George murder mystery has taken a new twist with a blacksmith stating that the ‘S’-shaped knife, claimed by the police to be the murder weapon, was made as per the directions of the police after the crime.

As per the investigation carried out by Asianet news channel, Alappuzha North Circle Inspector K A Thomas approached the blacksmith in Alappuzha to make an Sshaped knife after Ernakulam range Inspector-General Vinson M Paul told a press meet that the murderer had used such a knife.

The channel said that the police had also asked the blacksmith to make a small knife of the same size. The channel personnel discovered this fact after they approached the blacksmith impersonating police officials. The IG was not available for comments.

DGP Jacob Punnose said, ‘‘Satheesh’s mother has already filed a case in this regard in the High Court. The knife recovered by the police has been submitted to the court. I cannot comment on the issue as it is sub judice.’’ The special branch has started an inquiry into the incident. DySP K M Tomy, who is part of the Special Investigation Team probing the murder case, said the channel report was not authentic.

“Another Malayalam news channel was with the police team which recovered the knife from the house of Kari Satheesh.

They did not find any suspicion in the recovery.

Police need not resort to such tactics to prove any case,’’ he added.

CBI PROBE SOUGHT

The case reached the Kerala High Court on Monday after Vilasini, the mother of prime accused in the case Kari Satheesh, approached the court seeking a direction to the state government to order a CBI inquiry into the murder. In her petition, Vilasini submitted that only a CBI inquiry would bring out the truth so that the real culprits can be booked. She alleged that the police had hidden the so-called murder weapon inside their house to implicate Satheesh who was innocent.

The police had included him in the case to save the real culprits, who were said to have links with gang leaders Om Prakash and Puthenpalam Rajesh, she alleged.

More details could be received about the nexus between these goons and certain politicians if an inquiry was launched into the benami land deals, she said. She contended that her son had confessed to the crime for monetary benefit as he was offered Rs 15 lakh as reward. The High Court may take up the petition on Tuesday.
