PALAKKAD: The officials of the Vigilance Department arrested a village officer of Mundur-1 village, Ahmed Nissar, while taking a bribe of Rs 500 from a person named Rajan of Mundur for surveying his land and accepting the tax arrears due from him. The incident occurred around 1.30 p.m.
on Tuesday. The complainant was Rajan who was employed in Ootty as a head constable in the Tamil Nadu police. Rajan was residing at 150 HMT road in Kottagiri, Ootty. Rajan possessed 25 cents of land in the name of his father Shankaran in Mundur-1 village .
Since Rajan had tax arrears of one year, the village officer demanded that the land should be inspected.
Consequently the village officer measured the land on August 22. The village officer demanded a sum of Rs 1,500 for the service. Rajan paid Rs 1,000 on the same day.
When Rajan went to collect the tax receipt, the village officer reportedly demanded the remaining Rs 500. It was then that Rajan contacted the Vigilance Deputy Superintendent of Police who provided him Rs 500 and lay the trap. Ahmed Nissar, the village officer, was arrested as soon as he accepted the money. Ahmed Nissar was produced before the Vigilance Court in Thrissur in the evening which remanded him in custody for 15 days. Vigilance Deputy Superintendent of Police P K Satheesan was accompanied by circle inspectors Baburaj, Feroze, M Shafeeq and M J Sojan and sub-inspector Ramesh.
