'It is up to Karnataka police to arrest Madani'

Apart from giving help to their Karnataka counterparts, the local police had no role in the issue, says Kerala Minister.

KANNUR: With the uncertainity over the arrest of PDP leader Abdul Nassar Madani, an accused in the 208 Bangalore serial blasts case, continuing, the Kerala home minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Monday reiterated that it was for Karnataka police to decide on when to arrest Madani.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Balakrishnan said since Madani had said that he (Madani) would surrender before a local court, Kerala police has nothing more to do. It was for the Karnataka police to take the final decision on when to arrest Madani, he said.

Kerala police would provide all help for the Karnataka police in executing the warrant, he said.

Balakrishnan said all allegations against him with regard to Madani's arrest was politically motivated as Kerala police has no role in it.

No one will be allowed to violate the law and order situation in the state, he said.

Balakrishnan had told reporters at Kozhikode on Sunday that 'The arrest warrant is with Karnataka police and not in the hands of Kerala police. Kerala police will extend all help to them to execute it.'

A Karnataka police team had been camping in the district with the arrest warrant for the last seven days awaiting the green signal help from state police to execute the order.

The administration imposed prohibitory orders under IPC Sec 144 and brought the main roads leading to the orphanage complex at Anwarssery, where Madani is camping, under its control. The ban orders were enforced in Mainagapally and nearby Sasthacottah panchyats.

Madani's anticipatory bail plea was rejected last week by the Karnataka High Court.
