THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sabarinath, the main accused in the Total 4U cheating case, who is back in the limelight in the form of a singer, has passed the buck on to Dr Remani for cheating hundreds of people of crores of rupees.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday in connection with the launch of a music album, in which he is donning the role of a singer, Sabarinath said that he was merely a ‘benami’ and Remani was the mastermind behind Total 4U.
``I met Remani while I was working as an advisor for MetLife. She initially persuaded me to join casino trading. Remani, who masterminded the Total 4U business, offered me a monthly remuneration of Rs 35 lakh.
She also advised me that since I was just 18 years old at that time, my presence might create doubts among the investors,’’ Sabarinath said in his first appearance before the media after being released on bail in the cheating case.
Sabrinath also said that he came in touch with Chandramathi of SIDCO and Hemalatha of Dhanalakshmi Bank through Remani.
It was the influence of Remani that made it possible for him to open 36 accounts with the Dhanalakshmi Bank in the name of Total 4U, he said.
Sabarinath also blamed Remani for the collapse of Total 4U. ``It was certain massive transactions of Remani at short notice that led to the collapse,’’ he said, adding that he had acquired assets, including gold, diamonds, vehicles and land, for several crores.
``Had there been no litigations, the deposits collected from investors could have been refunded easily,’’ he said.
Jumper, a music album produced under the banner of Molecule Entertainments in which Sabarinath has sung a song, was launched on Wednesday. S.D. Swamy is the producer of the album.
Anil Panachooran has penned the lyrics, which are high on the comical element.
