THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: V Surendran Pillai, the Kerala Congress (Thomas) faction nominee to be inducted into the state cabinet, would be given Sports and Youth Affairs portfolio.
CPI-M's M Vijayakumar, who is holding charge of the portfolio now, would be given Public Works, which Kerala Congress (J) leader P J Joseph held before he quit the cabinet and the LDF two months ago.
The decision on allocation of these portfolios was taken by the CPI-M state secretariat last evening and later got the endorsement of other LDF partners, LDF sources said.
The Kerala Congress faction led by former union minister P C Thomas was earlier this month made a partner in the front.
Pillai, who represents Thiruvananthapuram West segment in the assembly, was the lone Kerala Congress MLA who declined to go with former minister P J Joseph, who dissolved the party led by him and joined the Kerala Congress (Mani) to become part of the Congress-led UDF a few months back.
Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac had been holding the additonal charge of Public Works after Joseph quit the cabinet.
