THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has said that the State has been witnessing massive progress in the IT sector, both in terms of software exports as well as infrastructure development during the past four years of LDF rule.

In a statement issued here on Friday, the CM said that software exports from the State which stood at Rs 630 crore in 2006 has now increased to Rs 3,200 crore, a growth of 80 percent in four years.

However, the growth during the five years of UDF tenure from 2001-06 was only 23 percent, the CM said as reply to a recent remarks by Opposition leader Oommen Chandy on the IT development in the State.

Achuthanandan also pointed out that there has been 81 percent increase in the IT infrastructure in the State during the four years of his Government, where as it was only 31 percent during the tenure of the previous Government.

At present the State has a total of 105 lakh square feet of space at IT parks.

Though silent on the Smart City project, the Chief Minister pointed out that the LDF Government had chalked out an IT policy for the State that envisaged the development of more IT infrastructure as well as generation of more job opportunities. Moreover, the Government had also made various initiative for IT training, the statement said.
