KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Thursday disposed of a petition filed by Nishal Chandra and his in-laws seeking to quash the FIR registered against them on a complaint filed by Nishal’s wife actor Kavya Madhavan.

Passing the orders, Justice M Sasidharan Nambiar observed that the case cannot be quashed as there are no materials before the court to show that there has been a settlement to the matrimonial dispute.

The public prosecutor submitted before the court that instructions will be issued not to arrest the petitioners for seven days to enable them to settle the dispute.

The court observed that the petitioners can move the court along with Kavya to quash the proceedings after the settlement of the dispute.

The petitioners, Nishal Chandran, mother Mani Mohan, brother Dr Deepak and father Chandra Mohan Nayyar, sought to quash the FIR registered by the Palarivattom police on a dowry harassment complaint filed by Kavya. Kavya had filed a petition before the Ernakulum First Class Magistrate Court against her husband and family members under the Domestic Violence Act for causing mental stress.

A divorce petition filed by Kavya is pending with the Ernakulum Family Court.
