

ALUVA: Thottakkattukara junction in Aluva witnessed a rare function on Sunday evening as elected representatives, environmentalists, the Janamaithri police and residents associations gathered to honour an old banyan tree on the side of the national highway here.
At the function, the octogenarian banyan tree was named the ‘Golden Tree of Aluva’.
MLAs Simon Britto and A M Yousef, Superintendent of Police T Vikram, Tony Fernandez, C M Joy, Prasanth Palackappilly, Ramachandran, Jose Paul, Manomohan and C I Rameshkumar were present. They symbolically dressed the tree with a ‘silk skirt’.
The speakers stressed on the need to plant and protect trees which provide invaluable contributions to mankind.
