Vastu governs positive and negative energy inside the house and very prominently in the case of kitchen and pooja room.
Best corner for kitchen
There are three options. The best one is the south-east corner (agnicone). Second best is the north-west corner (vayucone) and the third option can be the north-east corner (eshanacone).
Best corner for the pooja room
The vastu corner is the north-east corner of the house. If it is a two-storied house, do ensure that the pooja room is on the ground floor. If there is no pooja room in the house, you can affix a wooden platform at a proper location inside the house and light a lamp in front of the photo of the idol kept on that. In that case, the platform should not be above the shoulder level of the leading female member of the family.
Never make a pooja room on the other side of the wall of the bathroom or under the staircase.
Designing the staircase
Ensure that you face the southern direction when you alight the stairs. Otherwise, it should be such that you alight facing the west and climb in the clockwise direction.
Never build the staircase from the north-east corner. Also, never start the staircase from the `brahmasthana’ (central portion) of the house. The staircase should never face the front door. Such a staircase is considered inauspicious for the leading female member of the family. It might also cause financial problems for the family.
Number of stairs
Build even number of door steps ie 2, 4, 6, or 8 (that is if you treat the steps in the profit-loss-profit order, you should be stepping into profit). The same applies to staircase steps also.
It is good to have even number in the case of door frame and windows as well.
Having two kitchens and two pooja rooms
If only one family is staying in a house, it is better to have one kitchen and one pooja room. And, if it is a two-storied house and the stairs to the first floor is outside the house, then it is not bad to have a kitchen and a pooja room on that floor.
