THRISSUR: A five-member forensic team led by forensic surgeon Sherley Vasu conducted the postmortem examination on the body of Soumya on Monday.
According to preliminary reports, severe head injury led to her death. She had a fractured skull and seven of her teeth were missing.
Additional Director-General of Police Mahesh Kumar Singla handed over the investigation charge to Narcotic Cell DySP V Radhakrishnan following the death of the woman.
Meanwhile, security for the accused has been strengthened in view of strong public ire. Though the police took two more persons into custody in connection with the case, they have not yet been able to trace the mobile phone of the victim.
The public protest against the gruesome incident turned violent in many places on Monday, too. The AIYF and the DYFI activists took out protest marches to the Thrissur railway station. The police removed the activists who tried to barge into the railway station. The KSU activists blocked the Kochi-Shoranur Passenger Train at Thrissur.
The windowpanes of the RPF office here were broken after the agitators pelted stones at the office. Various women’s organisations and the Thrissur Railway Passengers Association have condemned the incident and wore black badges.
Various political parties observed hartal in Shoranur on Monday.
