THRISSUR: The Kerala Sahitya Akademi fellowships and awards for 2010 were presented at a function here on Sunday.
K Sachidanandan and C Radhakrishnan received the Akademi fellowships consisting of a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, a citation, a plaque and two-sovereign gold medals each.
Omcheri N N Pillai, K Gopalakrishnan, S Ramesan Nair, Malayathu Appunni, Sara Thomas and Joseph Mattam were given the Akademi’s lifetime achievement awards, each consisting of a cash prize of `30,000, a certificate and a plaque.
Oscar Award winner Resul Pookutty was felicitated on the occasion.
Cultural Affairs Minister M A Baby presented him a gold medal.
The others who received the awards are E P Sreekumar (short story - Parasya Shareeram), Khadeeja Mumtaz (novel - Barsa), Mullanezhi (poetry - Kavitha), A Santhakumar (drama - Maram Peyyunnu), M R Chandrasekharan (literary criticism - Malayalam Novel Innum Innaleyum), T Pradeep (scholarly literature - Kunju Kanangalkku Vasantham), Muzaffar Ahmed (travelogue - Marubhoomiyude Atmakatha), Ashalatha (translation - Aadinte Virunnu), Sumangala (children’s literature - Nadannu Theeratha Vazhikal) and C R Omanakuttan (humour - Sreebhoothavilasam Nair Hotel).
The endowment awards were presented to Hameed Chendamangallur (C B Kumar Award), P Sreekumar (I C Chacko Award), K Babu Joseph (G N Pillai Award), P V Ramankutty (K R Namboodiri Award), Sushmesh Chandrothu (Gita Hiranyan Award) and N M Namboodiri (Kuttipuzha Award).
Akademi president P Valsala and secretary Purushan Kadalundi were present on the occasion. The minister earlier inaugurated three floors of the Sahitya Akademi Golden Jubilee Building.
