THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K S Radhakrishnan will be the new chairman of the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC). He will assume office when the incumbent chairman K V Salahudeen retires in August.

A renowned philosopher and gifted orator, Radhakrishnan had been the Vice-Chancellor of Sanskrit University, Kalady, from 2004 to 2008.

He had a turbulent tenure there as several of his initiatives were challenged by the proCPM teachers and employees organisations. Radhakrishnan, who hails from a poor family, began his career as a publication assistant in SPCS. He later turned to journalism and worked with the Congress mouthpiece 'Veekshanam' for a while.

He began his teaching career at Brennan College, Thalassery and worked in various government colleges. He was appointed the VC of Sanskrit University while serving as a Reader in Brennan College.

An author of several books and research papers, Radhakrishnan is a member of Indian Council of Philosophical Research and Indian Council of World Affairs. He lives in Kochi with wife and two daughters.
