ALUVA: The Janasree Mission, an NGO, was committed to propagate and introduce non-toxic food products, said M M Hassan in Aluva on Sunday.

State chairman of Janasree Mission Hassan was inaugurating the district-level leaders’ camp of the mission in Aluva. The mission would initiate a campaign for

non-toxic food production and consumer protection in the state.

Janasree volunteers would promote organic vegetable cultivation on house premises and waste lands in the state. The Janasree is committed to make Kerala a self-sufficient state in production of organic vegetables. “We are still a consumer state. Most of the vegetables are brought from Tamil Nadu. They grow vegetables using banned pesticides, which adversely affects our health. Kerala should be made self-sufficient in food products,” he said.

The Janasree Mission will organise a two-day workshop on organic food production in Thiruvanthapuram during August.

It would also hold exhibitions of organic food products in all districts in Kerala during Onam season.

District chairman M O John presided over the function. State secretary B S Balakrishnan, state executive members K S Shaji, Thoppil Abu, Bincy Paul, CEO N R Pillai, C G Ramesh and Mary Kurien spoke on the occasion.
