THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cops were on their toes when they recovered a sword from an overturned autorickshaw in front of Mascot Hotel where BJP leader L K Advani was scheduled to meet the press. The incident occurred on Saturday morning after the police had imposed traffic restrictions in the city.
According to traffic police officials, they had spotted an autorickshaw which wasspeeding along the road in front of the PMG office defying traffic blockade imposed as Advani was about to start his press meet at Mascot Hotel. The speeding auto overturned on the spot while trying to evade the security officials. The security officers, deployed in large numbers, took the three people in the autorickshaw to custody.
Later it was revealed that the driver, a resident of Ookkodu, was in an inebriated state and the other two were passengers who had hired the vehicle. Foolproof security was arranged against the backdrop of the recovery of pipe-bomb from Madurai on Friday. Traffic police had registered a case for rash driving against the driver and later released him on bail.
