KASARGOD: The two-day special camp organised by the Muslim Youth League (MYL) in Uduma warned its members to be aware of the dangerous trend of youths being misled into the path of religious extremism. The camp was organised on October 28 and 29 in the background of the recent communal disturbances in Kanhangad. The camp expressed concern over a letter sent by DIG S Sreejith to the Chief Minister underlining the fact that the Kanhangad violence was communal disturbance, not political clashes.
The camp pointed out that it was the duty of the Youth League as a responsible organisation of youths to prevent the communalisation of society which eliminated religious amity and brotherhood. Another important decision was to form Shihab Thangal Peace Force and start a political school under the Youth League to prevent the infiltration of extremist elements. According to Youth League leaders, the public meetings organised by the IUML or the Youth League ended up in violence and this has sullied the image of the party. It was the interference of non-party players which ended in police firing in Kasargod on November 15, 2009.
