KOZHIKODE: This could shake the prudish souls off their wits. ‘Ananga Ranga’, an ancient classic erotic literature in Sanskrit, is going 3D. Young filmmaker Rupesh Paul’s upcoming project ‘Kamasutra 3D’ is a period movie based on a sex manual written by arch-poet Kalyana Malla, related to the Lodi Dynasty, which ruled Delhi from 1451 to 1526.
There are mixed opinions regarding the period during which the book was written. “While some say that the book was written in 12th century AD, publishers of the translated version note that the work was done in 15th or 16th century AD,” he says.
The story board of the film has been prepared and the shooting will begin on December 1. At present, the sets are being designed at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. Cinematographer K P Nambiathiri will be the 3D consultant. Eying a wider audience across the globe, it will be released in English and French. However, the dubbing rights will be given for releasing in regional languages. “Considering the legal formalities existing in the country, the casting of the movie is done by Banana Fish Management, a casting agency based in UK,” he said. “The casting process has begun and we are looking for people of Indian origin as it is purely an Indian period movie. Actors will be taught French so as to get the perfect lip sync,” he said.
The screenplay is by Indu Menon, his wife and Francois Coppey from France will be the cinematographer.
Rupesh has just finished ‘Saint Dracula 3D’ - first stereoscopic 3D dracula movie - with a Hollywood cast and crew.
