MALAPPURAM: The students of the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management of Amal College of Advanced Studies, Nilambur, are all set to attempt for a Limca record by making 101 varieties of 'pathiri' in one hour.

The event, 'aimed at bringing the aroma of Malabar pathiri to the celebrated menu of the world', will be held at the college auditorium from 8 am to 9 am on January 31.

Twentythree select students, including five persons for assistance and three for supervision, will take part in the event.

Two representatives of the Limca Book of Records will present on the occasion

to watch the live performance.

The college will submit the recorded video document of the event to the officials as per their earlier instruction, and two government officials will certify the live

performance of the students.

At present, there is no entry in the Limca Book in connection with the preparation of pathiri, the organisers said, adding that the effort is intended to highlight

how far the dish is culturally interwoven into the

lives of the people of Malabar.

"We are happy to get the name of the college listed in the Limca Book," said principal of the college Dr M Usman.

An exhibition of different varieties of pathiri will be organised as part of the event.

Former MP A P Abdulvahab will inaugurate the exhibition.

Amal College of Advanced Studies, run by the Nilambur Muslim Orphanage Committee and affiliated to University of Calicut, was established in 2005 with an aim of imparting quality higher education to the students from backward and rural areas.

It was for the first time that a course with a blend of hotel management and tourism was started under aided sector. The student strength of the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management is 100.
