THODUPUZHA: In a bid to spot the suspected leakage, experts on Friday conducted an inspection on the penstock track of the Neriamangalam power project.

The inspection, carried out by a team of KSEB engineers and geologists from Chennai, will continue on Saturday.

The scrutiny of the tunnels of the Pallivasal power plant was conducted on Thursday.  The functioning of Mattupetty, Pallivasal, Chengulam and Panniyar had been suspended to carrry out the inspection.

KSEB is generating maximum power from other hydroelectric stations such as Idukki, Sabarigiri, Sholayar and Kuttiyady to reach the daily target of 20 million units, the officials said.

The sluices of Kallarkutty dam were opened on Thursday for the smooth conduct of the inspection. Following this Muthirapuzhayar and Periyar witnessed heavy flow of water.

A large number of people gathered at the dam site as soon as the announcement came on the release of the water.
