

OACHIRA: A head-on collision of two mini trucks claimed the lives of two people from Karnataka and injured another from Karnataka and four from Kanyakumari on the NH 47 near Vanchimukku here in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The deceased had been identified as Anand Govinda Naik, 38, and Dinesh Dharma Naik, 25. Both are presumed to be natives of Mookambika.
A co-passenger of the deceased, Shyam, 28, has been admitted to the Alappuzha Medical College in a critical condition.
Passengers of the second truck, Nikhil Raj, 38, of Kottar, Karuppu Swami, 34, of Mylaudi, Kanyakumari, Kenndy, 26, of Mylaudi and Raj, 30, of Kanyakumari were injured.
The accident happened around 12.50 a m, when a Harippad-bound mini truck carrying raw materials for construction of a temple in Thirunelveli and a Nagercoil-bound mini truck carrying machinery for an ice plant collided head-on.
Both the vehicles were reduced to scrap due to the impact of the collision. One person died on the spot, while the other died on the way to the hospital. The traffic on the National Highway came to a halt for nearly an hour.
