KOTTAYAM: Describing the Right to Information(RTI) Act as revolutionary, former additional chief secretary D Babu Paul said on Friday that the Act has helped in establishing transparency in governance. He was inaugurating a seminar on RTI Act and transparency organised by the Kottayam Press Club as part of its Ruby Jubilee celebrations.
State properties are public assets. In order to make the general public derive maximum benefits from these assets, the RTI Act should be used in an effective manner.
According to him, the Act should be revisited at regular intervals for doing away with anomalies.
He added that the Act has helped in increasing the responsibility of the officials and made them more accountable. Speaking on ‘Sutharya Keralam’ and Mass Contact programme, he said that the success of these projects lies in it their ability to reach out to the public.
