2 nuns die in Ghana road mishap

Two nuns of the Thrissur-based Holy Family Congregation died and two nuns suffered fatal injuries in a road mishap near Jakobu in Ghana.

The deceased are Sr Annie Elvina, 67, regional superior sister of Holy Family Sisters Convent and Sr Kripa Paul, 36, a nurse associated with the Shandidhara Province, New Delhi, who had been working in Ghana for the last few years.

The injured are Sr Binsi Maria, 36, and Sr Danya Dhanya Chitillapalli, 52. According to the information received, the condition of Sister Dhanya is critical.

 The accident occurred around 8 pm (IST) when the nuns were travelling from their workplace to residence.

The mini bus in which they were travelling to Kodiyambay from Jakobu overturned after the driver lost control  of the vehicle.

Sr Prasanna Thattil, Superior General  of the Holy Family Congregation, and Sr Udaya, General Council member of the congregation, rushed to Ghana to provide assistance to the victims.

They have already reached the Ghana Embassy in New Delhi to get their travel documents ready.

They are in touch with the Indian Embassy authorities in Ghana.

Sr Ranjana said all arrangements have been made to provide treatment to the injured nuns.

Sr Anne Elvina belongs to Mala Kavalakattu family and was a retired professor from St Joseph’s college, Irinjalakuda. Sr Kripa, a nurse, is the daughter of Paulose and Saramma from Perambra.
