PIRAVOM: With just four days to go for Piravom bypoll, Anoop Jacob’s campaign at Mulanthuruthy has all the ingredients of a blockbuster climax.
More fireworks, more slogan-shouting activists on bikes and cars, more leaders, songs and even a street play by Alappuzha Samskara Samithi - ‘De Pinnem Capital Punishment’, the poll fever has topped here.
The campaign succeeded in drawing the attention of voters as the convoy passed through the junction.
And even as Mulanthuruthy simmered in poll heat, Anoop Jacob, accompanied by Jose K Mani MLA, patiently listened to the voters, enquiring about their problems and woes. For most of the home-makers at Mulanthuruthy, it was drinking water shortage that worries them. Anoop is unfazed as he says: “You will get water.”
His campaign speech never fails to mention such a project. “Solving the potable water shortage is the priority,” he says and adds that such a project is already on the UDF agenda as promised by his late father T M Jacob. As Anoop’s campaigning days draws to a close, T M Jacob figures quite often in his short speech.
He asks to vote for a stable government as such a government is imperative to carry out development works. He also seeks votes for the support of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who is concerned about the common man. The achievements of the nine-month old UDF Government finds a mention in his speech.
The campaign at Mulanthuruthy was inaugurated at Vattukunnu by DCC president V J Paulose on Monday. Panchayat and Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer, Hibi Eden MLA and KPCC general secretary Ajay Tharayil took part in the inaugural function.
The campaign began at 9 a.m. and passed through Vattukunnu, Vezhaparambu, Inchimala, Pulikamali, Vettickal, Aarakunnam, Thuruthikkara, Mulanthuruthy Pallithazham and ended at Mulanthuruthy Karavatte Kurishu.
