Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated the Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University on Kerala Piravi day at a function held at Thunchanparamba. M T Vasudevan Nair and T Padmanabhan were honoured during the function. Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb presided over the inaugural ceremony.
Chief Minister described the inauguration as a historical event for the state and the Malayalam language. It would be a proud moment for the Malayalis including those who are living abroad, he added.
“Government’s next target is to get classical status for Malayalam language. We are continuing our efforts for that and we hope Malayalam will achieve it as soon as possible. The government is also planning to expand the functioning of Malayalam Mission outside the country,” Chief Minister said in his inaugural speech. Malayalam University Vice-chancellor K Jayakumar presented the report about the university.
He said the classes in the university would begin next July in a temporary building constructed in a 20 acre plot near Thunchan Memorial College, Tirur.
Ministers K M Mani, Aryadan Muhammed, A P Anilkumar, MPs E T Muhammed Basheer, M I Shanavas, MLAs C Mammootty, Abdu Rehman Randathani, T A Ahmed Kabeer, M P Abdu Samad Samadani, P Ubaidullah, N Shamsudeen, M Ummer, K Muhammadunni Haji and deputy opposition leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan attended the function.
A cultural procession was also held from Tirur town to Thunchanparamba as part of the inaugural function.
