A nun, who was working as the Headmistress of an unaided school in Changanassery, has been removed from the post for making two lower primary students draw a cross on the floor using their tongue, as punishment for talking during the school assembly.

The incident, which happened last Tuesday, was widely reported in the local media. The parents and PTA members took up the matter with the school management, and the nun, who belongs to the FCC congregation and is working at St Joseph’s English Medium L P School, Kurubanadam, had then agreed to apologise. On Sunday, Sister Annet apologised at the PTA meeting in the presence of AEO A K Appukuttan and parents. Another teacher, who is said to have picked up a quarrel with the parents who questioned such actions, has also been suspended for two weeks. Mother Superior and the manager of the school said that sister Annet would not be allowed to teach anymore and would be transferred to a convent.
