KOTTAYAM: Frustrated over the snail’s pace in taking action against Shinto P Kurian, a sub-inspector who allegedly maltreated Kannan, a 11-year-old boy, at the Ponkunnam police station, the mother and grandparents of the boy have asked the authorities concerned to expedite action. They alleged that the police had asked Kannan to report at the police station in connection with a fake sexual harassment case.

“The police did not inform us about the charge against Kannan. We heard that they are framing it as a sexual harassment case,” said Shobhana, Kannan’s

mother.

Shobhana had approached Revenue minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, the Human Rights commission, Women’s Commission, and the district police superintendent, demanding action against the police official.

“However, no action has been taken so far,” Shobhana said in a press conference in Kottayam.

Sub-inspector Shinto has denied the allegations. “The grandparents of the boy were asked to come to the police station in connection with a complaint against the boy, who allegedly misbehaved with a 16-year-old-girl.

“However, they also brought the boy to the police station saying that they could not leave the him alone in the house. I had never asked them to bring him to the police station,” said the sub-inspector.

“The Legal Service Authority and the Child Welfare Committee had enquired about the issue and if the authorities had found me guilty, the authorities would have initiated action against me,” Shinto said.
