COIMBATORE: ‘Lottery King’ Santiago Martin, who has been under judicial custody for nearly seven months, was released from the Coimbatore Central Prison on Monday after he secured bail in all the cases registered against him in various police stations.

There were around 50 people, including his daughter Daisy Martin, waiting at the prison’s entrance to welcome Martin. He drove away in a BMW car soon after emerging from the prison around 6.45 p.m. “There were 14 cases against Martin registered in various police stations.

He has been in the prison for the last seven months. He had been granted bail in 13 of the cases. On Monday, a court granted him bail in a cheating case filed by the Kodumudi police,” said advocate Paramasivam, who appeared on Martin’s behalf.

The police had also invoked the Goondas Act against Martin. This was subsequently quashed by the Madras High Court in March.Martin has been granted bail by seven courts - five in the city, one in Avinashi and another in Erode. Some of the courts have set conditions for Martin like appearing regularly in the police station where the case was registered.

Ravanan Likely to be Freed Today

Sasikala’s relative M R P Ravanan, who is in jail for various cases of cheating, is likely to be released from Coimbatore Central Prison on Tuesday.

His lawyers said he had been granted bail in all the cases pending against him and would be released once the orders reach the prison.

On Friday, Ravanan was granted bail by three courts - two in Coimbatore and one in Chennai. On Monday, he was granted bail by a court in Vellore and another in Chennai. “Most likely the court orders will reach the prison on Tuesday, following which he will be released,” said Adv Bhavani Mohan, Ravanan’s counsel.
