THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While boys took nine out of the top 10 ranks of the Kerala Medical Entrance Examination, 2012, Shilpa M Paul, from Kothamangalam, bagged the first rank.

The second position went to Vishnu Prasad P from Kozhikode, who also happens to be the lone candidate in the top 10 to make it in the first appearance. The third rank went to Azad T, native of Kannur.

Announcing the results here on Thursday, Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb said out of 77,974 who wrote the examination, 71,135 have qualified. Of this, 49,467 are girls. The first 100 ranks were grabbed by 53 boys and 47 girls.

Six candidates among the first 10 ranks are from the higher secondary while rest have the CBSE as their qualifying examination.

In the SC category, 107-ranker Devu Philip from Thiruvananthapuram topped. Second place went to Jithin P, ranked 452, from Malappuram.

In the ST category, Akash S, native of Idukki, whose rank is 2,262, became the topper while the second place went to 3,552-ranker Manu Dius Kandachamkulam from Thiruvananthapuram.

Engg Entrance Exam

The marks secured by candidates in the entrance examination for admission to engineering colleges were also published.

The rank list will be prepared after effecting the normalisation procedure for which qualifying marks from various boards needed to be mapped. Commissioner for Entrance Examinations B S Mavoji said that the engineering results will be out in the third week of June.

The options for Medical/Engineering courses will be invited from June 14.

The engineering candidates can also place their options along with the medical candidates. Based on the options, trial allotment will begin.

Later, when the engineering results will be out, candidates can rearrange their options. The first real allotment will begin from July 3.

The allotment of engineering seats will be completed before August 15. The allotment to medical seats would get completed by October as the All India Medical Entrance allotment creates vacancies in the state. The results are available at www.cee.kerala.gov.in, www.keralaresults.nic.in and www.results.kerala.nic.in.
