Music maestro V Dakshinamoorthy popularised the Carnatic genre through his six-decade-long association with film music, said Health and Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar. He was addressing a commemoration meeting organised by the Vayalar Ramavarma Samskarika Vedi here on Saturday.

“Music was a worship for Dakshinamoorthy Swami. His music will continue to enthral generations,” he said.

The Minister said that Swami was also credited with scoring music for three generations of a family Augustine Joseph, K J Yesudas and Vijay Yesudas.

Mayor K Chandrika said the veteran musician in his film career from ‘Nalla Thanka’ to ‘Mizhikal Sakshi’ always succeeded in transcending the emotional mood of lyrics.

“Three generations embraced his tunes during his lifetime and they are sure to remain evergreen,” she said. Composer Ramesh Narayan said Swami’s soul and music would remain with the Malayalees forever. Recalling his close association with the maestro, Narayan said Dakshinamoorthy’s life could be compared with that of saint composer Tyagaraja Swamikal.“He was a staunch devotee of Lord Siva of Vaikom Mahadeva Temple and always chanted the Lord’s name. His divine association with the music, simple lifestyle and devotion make him a role model which only a few could emulate in real life. His greatest support was his wife who always accompanied him in his travels,” she said.

Trust office-bearers A R Krishnakumar and Vijayakumar were among those who addressed the function attended by music lovers.
