Former Indian international K T Chacko proved on Wednesday that his prowess under the goalposts is still to diminish by making a diving save when put to test by a penalty kick from Mathew T Thomas MLA during the inaugural ceremony of the south zone leg of TNIE GOAL 2014.

With a good number of onlookers at the Municipal Public Stadium here, the local football hero, who was the safe hands for the successful Kerala Police team, looked calm and composed as he waited for the shot from the MLA.

The yesteryear hero made a confident leap to his left and denied the shot from crossing the line as applause rang around the ground as they got a glimpse of the goalkeeping talent that was once a permanent fixture during the 1980s.

After the ceremony, Chacko expressed his wish to see more contribution from Kerala to the national team and wanted the state to embrace footballing culture.

“I was the last from my district to represent India. It worries me that no one else has followed the footsteps and this is something that needs to change,” Chacko, who hails from Pathanamthitta, added.
