The  238 teachers of 33 unaided schools in Malappuram will get salary and other benefits on a par with that of aided schools.

The state government has taken a decision on this but deferred a plan to include  the schools in the aided sector till a political consensus is reached within the UDF.

The IUML Ministers, including Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb, demanded that the 33 schools should be included in the aided sector. But Finance Minister K M Mani and Power Minister Aryadan Mohammed opposed it.

The issue will be taken up  in the next UDF meet scheduled for Tuesday.

The schools were started in 1990-91 under the Area-Intensive Programme of the Union Government, but after the Centre stopped the assistance, the IUML had demanded their inclusion in the aided sector.

Abdu Rabb told reporters in Malappuram that there were no differences in the Cabinet on giving aided status to the schools.
