The Folklore Academy of Kerala has decided to start folklore clubs in all schools and colleges in the state to preserve folk songs and traditional art forms.
Speaking to media persons in Changanassery on Monday, academy member and Kanjirappally MLA N Jayaraj said that such clubs were only functioning in colleges within the jurisdiction of the M G University at present.
“The academy has recently taken a decision to start such clubs in all schools and colleges across the state,” he said. Mohammed Ahamed, chairman of the academy and Gothra Kalapeedam and professor at NSS Hindu College Changanassery, said that Manimala would be declared as a folklore village in view of preserving traditional art forms. Chief Minster Oommen Chandy will officially make the announcement at a function to be held in Manimala Village on February 2.
The official inauguration of folklore clubs in colleges affiliated to MG University which functions under MG University Folklore Academy would be held at the Assumption College Changanasserry on January 21 at 2 pm.
Cultural Minster K C Joseph will inaugurate the ceremony. MG University Vice-Chancellor A V George will also be present on the occasion.
