Sahitya Akademi awards, fellowships announced

The Kerala Sahitya Akademi fellowships and awards for 2012 have been announced. ‘Andhakaranazhi’ written by E Santhoshkumar has been selected the best novel while ‘Uppente Kooval Varakkunnu’ written by S Joseph has been chosen as the best poem. Akademi president Perumbadavam Sreedharan announced the awards at a press conference here on Thursday.

The following are the awards in different categories - M N Vinayakumar (Maraman Kanni- drama), Satheesh Babu Payyannur (Peramaram- short story), N K Ravindran (Pennezhuthanna Jeevitham - Literarcy Criticism), Naduvattom Gopalakrishnan (Samskara Mudrakal - scholarly literature), S Jayachandran Nair (Ente Pradkshina Vazhikal- Autobiography), S Sreenivasan (Marubhoomi - Translation), Santhosh George Kulangara (Baltic Diary- Travelogue), N P Hafis Mohammed (Kuttipattalathinte Kerala Paryadanam- Children’s Literature), P P Hamed (Oru Nano Kinavu - Humor Literature). The award carries a purse of `25,000, a citation and a plaque.

The following are the endowment awards: C B Kumar Endowment Award (Mukundan / Athunikatha Ennevide); Kuttipuzha Endowment Award (K E N Kunjahammed / Samooham Sahityam Samskaram); I C Chacko Award (V K Harihara Unnithan/ Malayala Chinthakal- Bhasha Padanam- Vyakaranam- Shastra Padanam); K R Namboothiri award (Dr V S Warrier / Sree Budhan- Jevitham Darshanam and Matham/ spiritual literature); Kanakasree Award (Prakashan Madikkai/ Moonu Kallukalkkidayil - poem); Geetha Hiranyan Award (G R Indugopan/ Rathriyil Autoyil Oru Manushyan) G N Piilai Award (N P Sajeesh/ Dridhya Deshangalude Bhoopadam- Scholarly literature).

The awards and fellowships will be presented at a function to be held as part of the annual celebration of the Kerala Sahitya Akedemi in August. Akedemi secretary R Gopalakrishnan, vice-president Akbar Kakkattil, executive members P K Parakadavu and Shoranur Karthikeyan attended the press meet held at Akedmi.
