Dengue spreading at an alarming rate

Dengue fever is spreading across the state at an unprecedented rate with as many as 90 confirmed cases and 421 suspected cases across the state.

Two deaths have been reported from Kottayam while four other fever deaths are suspected to be caused by dengue. Of the 90 confirmed cases, as many as 29 are from the capital city.

Similarly of the 421 suspected cases, 131 are from Thiruvananthapuram. A 24-hour control room has been opened here the telephone number of which is 0471-2466828. What is also worrying is the emergence of leptospirosis and Hepatitis A in the state.

Seven leptospirosis cases have been reported in the state, all from Thiruvananthapuram.

One suspected case each have been reported from Thrissur and Kottayam. Hepatitis A has been reported from the three districts of Kollam, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Among the 31 confirmed cases, Kollam reported 11, Kozhikode 10 and Wayanad 10.

H1N1 has claimed another victim in Kozhikode. However, no new cases have been reported. Meanwhile, rising to the occasion, Homoeopathy director has informed that homoeo medicines for prevention as well as treatment are now stocked at all 30 hospitals, 611 government homoeo dispensaries and 371 NRHM dispensaries. In addition, medical officers in each district have been given the responsibility of holding medical camps, awareness classes and distribution of preventive medicine, informed the Homoeo director.
