Assembly session from Monday

The ninth session of the 13th Kerala Assembly will begin on June 10. The House will be in session for a total of 28 days, Speaker G Karthikeyan said here on Friday. The Abkari Act (Amendment) Bill 2013 and the Kerala Municipality (Amendment) Bill 2013, which were promulgated as ordinances by the Governor after the eighth session, will be taken up on June 10.

The Travancore-Cochin Hindu Religious Institutions (Amendment) Bill 2013 and the Madras Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill 2013, also promulgated as ordinances, will be taken up the next day. On eight days, the House will discuss legislative business. From June 12 onwards, the discussion and voting will be held on the Demand for Grants for the 2013-14 fiscal.  In all, 13 days have been set apart for discussion on the Demand for Grants. The House will take up the Appropriation Bill on July 8, the Speaker said. On July 16, discussion and voting will be held on the Supplementary Grants. The Appropriation Bill on the Supplementary Grants vwill be considered on July 17.

All seven ordinances promulgated after the eighth session will be taken up as bills in the upcoming session. The Finance Bill 2013, which was introduced in the last session, will be taken up this time.

Five days have been set apart for private members’ bills. Politically, the ninth session will be a keenly watched one as it comes in the midst of the turmoil in the Congress over the unsuccessful bid to induct KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala in the Oommen Chandy cabinet.

The session will come to a close on July 18.
