Dengue fever claimed yet another life on Monday, that of a 48-year-old woman Vijayamma from Idukki. As many as five deaths were reported due to suspected dengue fever in the state on Monday, of which one is from Kollam and two each are from Idukki and Kottayam.
Though there was a dip in the number of fever cases the last couple of days, fever has regained its full strength in the state with the total number of fever cases once again crossing the five digit number at 23941.
However, the Integrated Disease State Surveillance Unit pointed out that the increase in the number of cases on Monday is due to inclusion of cases that were not reported on Sunday. The total number of confirmed dengue cases on Monday in the state was 92, of which the highest figure was in Thiruvananthapuram with 41 cases. Kottayam had a total of 16 cases, Malappuram had nine, Ernakulam had 7, Kollam and Idukki five each, Kozhikode, Waynad and Kannur two each and a single case in Alappuzha.
As many as 370 fever cases are suspected to be due to dengue virus, of which 93 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 89 from Kollam and 79 from Idukki.
Two deaths from pneumonia were reported from Kozhikode and one death suspected to be due to Japanese encephalitis was reported from Kollam. Five malaria cases and 18 typhoid cases were also reported from the northern part of the state.
A total of 6 confirmed cases of leptospirosis were reported, four from Thiruvananthapuram and one each from Adoor in Pathanamthitta and Kanjiyar in Idukki. There are 14 suspected leptospirosis cases all across the state.
