Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the light of allegations of misuse of mobile telephone being used by the Chief Minister.
Achuthanandan said in a statement here on Thursday that he had raised the allegation in the Assembly during discussions on demand for grants related to the General Administration department the other day.
He said several calls have been made to Saritha S Nair who is an accused in 13 criminal cases from the office and residence telephones of the Chief Minister besides from the mobile phone being used by the Chief Minister.
When the allegation was raised in the Assembly, the Chief Minister tried to evade the issue and did not give any clear answer.
On Thursday also, when the Opposition moved a notice for adjournment motion in the Assembly the Chief Minister attempted to divert the issue by giving lame excuses.
Achuthanandan alleged that the Chief Minister’s much-touted transparency had been exposed. The Chief Minister should answer whether his office which is open round-the-clock was being used to contact criminals. “In view of the serious nature of the allegation, the Chief Minister should resign and order a probe into the incident,’’ V S Achuthanandan said.
