The All Kerala Gas Agencies Workers Union (CITU) has decided to launch an agitation from July 1 to 5 in front of Secretariat demanding a basic pay of `12,000, standardised loading and unloading wages, ESI and EPF benefits.

“Agency owners have been exploiting the workers for the last 40 years by paying a paltry amount as salary. Despite repeated requests and protests, the situation remains pathetic. Hence, we are forced to launch a statewide agitation,” said K T Gireesh, district union secretary. The zonal convention of the union will be held at the NGO Union Hall on June 16. K Dasan MLA will inaugurate the meeting in which the union’s state president V S Mani and district president S Theja Chandran will attend.
