Sending out a clear message that the 51 cuts on Chandrasekharan’s body would not end the revolution that he dreamt of, the RMP activists and sympathisers observed the first anniversary of the martyrdom of TP with various functions here on Saturday.
Although a somber mood prevailed in Vallikadu in the morning, where TP was brutally hacked to death on the night of May 4, 2012, it soon paved way for a resilient show of hundreds of RMP activists. The commemoration started with the hoisting of the party flag and the activists taking out a torch rally from Vallikadu to the residence of Chandrashekaran at Nellacheri near Onchiyam. The torch was lit by Puravil Kannan, the living martyr of Onchiyam police firing incident of April 1948. While several hundreds chanted slogans, Communist ideologue Berlin Kunjananthan Nair received the torch from the athletes and lighted the memorial column at the house of the slain leader, marking the starting of the observance.
Berlin further unveiled the statue of the T P Chandrashekeran and hoisted the party flag at the house. Although feelings were flying high all this time, as at the time of his death, Chandrashekaran’s wife K K Rama, his son Abhinand, mother Padmini Amma and father-in-law K K Madhavan remained calm and paid tributes to their beloved one along with others leaders CPM Punjab general secretary Mangat Ram Pasla, Prasenjit Bose, Left Coordination Committee state general secretary K S Hariharan, RMP leader N Venu and critic Azad, among others.
Later, talking at the commemoration meeting, Berlin Kunjananthan Nair alleged that the CPM was trying to protect those involved in the killing of T P Chandrashekaran. “Prakash Karat had said that Party would conduct an investigation of its own and even after 10 months, the CPM is silent on it,” he said.
