'Special Branch had given warning about possible attack on T P Chandrasekharan'

The State Special Branch had alerted possibilities of a fatal attack on RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan in their six intelligence reports, said three Special Branch DySPs before the Special Additional District and Sessions Court (Marad Cases). DySPs with Special Branch CID, Vadakara Rural P Sunilkumar, Prajeesh Thottathil and V K Abdul Khader were deposing before the court on Saturday.

During the examination, the witnesses produced the reports prepared on April 6, 2009, March 23, 2010, October 15, 2010, October 25, 2010, November 11, 2010, and March 17, 2012, before the court. As per the report on March 17, some leaders of the CPM Kozhikode district committee had directed local leaders of the party at Onchiyam to eliminate Chandrasekharan.

Another report on March 23, 2010 said that there were possibilities for  CPM men from Panur, Chekiad and Kariad areas coming to Onchiyam for the murder operation and for transporting weapons for the operation from Mahe, according to the report on October 15.

The witness told the court that according to the report on October 25, 2010, there was a talk within the CPM that there would be possibilities for the killing of Chandrasekharan as it would prevent the growth of RMP, the splinter group floated by him. While the report on November 11, 2010, said that assailants from Kannur had come twice to murder Chandrasekharan, but failed in their attemps.

The report added further possibilities of a fatal attack and recommended for police protection to Chandrasekharan.

Another report had warned that violence might happen ahead of the Onchiyam RMP area conference scheduled to be held in April 2012.

There were possibilities of attack on RMP leaders N Venu and P Jayarajan along with Chandrasekharan, added the report. The witness also informed the court that five reports were submitted at the time of the then Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and one at the time of present Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.
