Indicating that the UDF would have a tough road ahead to the next general elections, the NSS has decided to relinquish the posts and positions awarded to its members by the UDF government.
Speaking reporters at the NSS headquarters at Perunna on Monday, NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair said that the decision was taken in the wake of some Congress leaders unleashing blistering attack on the organisation and its leaders.
According to the decision, the NSS members would give up the nominated posts accorded to its members in Boards, Corporations and universities in the state. “The decision will be applicable to the members of the NSS right from karayogams to the director board. Meanwhile, those who wish to continue in the nominated posts should relinquish NSS membership,” Sukumaran Nair said.
He hailed the decision taken by his daughter Dr S Sujatha, who resigned from MG University Syndicate on Monday, to stand by the policies of NSS. In the meantime, NSS director board member Kalanjoor Madhu also resigned from memberships of Building and other Construction Workers Board and the State Pollution Control Board. Sukumaran Nair added that both of them took the decision on their own, and informed the NSS about it only after sending their resignation letters to the authorities concerned.
“The posts awarded to them were not in the account of the NSS. However, the government had added all the posts and positions awarded to the members of the Society in the account NSS,” he said. Replying to queries, he said that TDB president M P Govindan Nair and Forest Development Corporation president V Manoharan Pillai should resign from their posts as they are members of the NSS director board, though, they were appointed as nominees of Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala respectively.
When asked about Women’s Commission members Dr J Prameela Devi and Thulasi, who are the faculties in NSS Colleges, he said only Ramesh Chennithala knows about the matter. He, however, said the organisation would not exert pressure on anybody to resign from the posts they hold. “All the NSS members are bound to stand by the decisions of the organisation,” he added.
