S Sujatha, daughter of Nair Service Society (NSS) general secretary G Sukumaran Nair, resigned from Mahatma Gandhi University Syndicate on Monday. In her resignation letter sent to Vice- Chancellor Dr A V George and Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb, both by email and registered post, she said that the decision was on personal grounds. However, speaking to Express, she said that the decision was taken in protest against the blatant attack unleashed by some Congress leaders. “There was little pressure on the part of the NSS in this matter. However, when some Congress leaders started slandering the NSS and its leaders I decided to declare my solidarity to the organisation, which had basically provided me a job in its college. Though, I was nominated to the post as a UDF nominee, I took the decision to stand by the policies of the NSS, which is an organisation that strives to ensure the social justice,” she said. She added that she had never nourished any desire for the post of pro-vice chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University. “I came to know that some of the pro-Congress Syndicate members had tried to bring me to the post, only through some newspapers. However, I took a stern decision when NSS general secretary asserted his stance on the matter through a television interview,” Sujatha said.
