A combined team of officials from Chennai police and Delhi police arrested actress Leena Maria Paul and her friend in New Delhi on Tuesday. Chennai police were on the lookout for the duo in connection with their alleged involvement in a cheating case.
On March 25 this year, a team from Central Crime Branch, Chennai police, led by Inspector Vijaya Kumar and Selva Kumar approached the Delhi police seeking help in tracing out Balaji alias Sukkesh Chandrasekar and his friend actress Leena Maria Paul. Chandrasekhar was wanted in a Rs 19-crore cheating case registered in Chennai.
Leena and Chandrasekhar were also accused in a Rs 76-lakh cheating case where the latter had posed as an IAS officer ‘seeking investment in a project’.
Police surveilance on a farmhouse situated at Asola suburb in New Delhi helped nab Chandrasekar and Leena who were hiding there. On Tuesday morning, a police team tracked a Land Cruiser carrying the duo from the farmhouse to the vicinity of Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj.
When the police team reached the main gate of the Mall, they saw a team of five to six armed bodyguards who were guarding Leena and Chandrasekhar. Police then arrested the duo and booked them for cheating, breach of trust and criminal conspiracy. Police investigations revealed that Chandrasekhar and Leena had hired the farmhouse for the past one month and were paying a rent of `4 lakh per month. The police recovered nine cars from the farmhouse. Police interrogation of Leena revealed that she is a BDS graduate and she did her schooling in Dubai. She has been in modelling and film industry for the past two years.
She has acted in Malayalam movies like ‘Red Chillies’ and ‘Husbands in Goa’ as well as the upcoming ‘Madras Cafe’.
