SNDP Yogam vice-president Thushar Vellappally resigned as the member of Guruvayur Devaswom managing committee on Wednesday.
The resignation came after the tussle between the SNDP Yogam and the Alappuzha DCC, which had passed a resolution against the Yogam. The SNDP director board meeting held here on Monday had decided to withdraw its nominees from all the posts allotted to them by the UDF.
The nominees of the NSS had started abandoning the posts offered to them following the rift. DCC president A A Shukkoor had allegedly asked the SNDP leaders to quit the posts offered by the UDF before criticising its leaders. This irritated the SNDP and NSS leadership.
After submitting the resignation, Thushar told mediapersons that he was quitting the post, as per the decision taken by the SNDP and NSS leaders and not based on the demand made by the DCC president.
NSS representative in the Guruvayur Devaswom Madhusoodanan Pillai too tendered his resignation. S Sujatha, daughter of NSS general secretary Sukumaran Nair, had earlier resigned the Syndicate member post in Mahatma Gandhi University.
NSS director board member Kalanjoor Madhu resigned the memberships of Pollution Control Board and the Kerala Building and Construction Board. The representatives of SNDP who are part of other boards and corporations are likely to tender their resignation soon.
The war of words between SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan and the DCC president A A Shukkoor had created ripples in the state’s political circles. The majority communities like NSS and SNDP turned against the UDF.
Both the SNDP and the NSS, which extended support to the UDF during the last assembly elections, are accusing the front of pandering to the demands of the minority community.
